Redevelopment Status Update
On June 29, 2011, Governor Jerry Brown signed ABx1 26, which eliminates redevelopment agencies statewide as of October 1, 2011, and ABx1 27, which creates a Voluntary Alternative Redevelopment Program (VARP), under which a redevelopment agency can continue to exist. On December 29, 2011, the California Supreme Court issued their decision in the case California Redevelopment Association et al., v. Ana Matosantos, upholding ABx1 26, with a four month extension of some dates, and invalidating ABx1 27.
On January 10, 2012, the County of Santa Cruz Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution to become the Successor Agency to the Santa Cruz County Redevelopment Agency, and to elect to assume the Agency's Housing assets and responsibilities.
In accordance with the sections of the law that remain in effect, the Board of Directors of the Redevelopment Agency adopted an Enforceable Obligation Payment Schedule on August 23, 2011, and adopted an Amended Enforceable Obligation Payment Schedule on September 27, 2011, and adopted a further Amended Enforceable Obligation Payment Schedule on January 24, 2012.
